At that time, the \u201cR\u201d already represented a certain brand protection and a designation of origin for the wines made in Rust. In 1681, the citizens of Rust managed to buy themselves off by paying 60,000 golden guldens and 500 barrels of Ruster Ausbruch (approx. 28,000l), a valuable <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.02em\" href=\"https:\/\/www.schandlwein.com\/en\/2017\/08\/23\/harvesting-the-ruster-ausbruch\/\">botrytis vine<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.02em\">\u00a0to the Habsburg family and Emperor Leopold I. He then raised the \u201cMarket of Rust\u201d to the \u201cFree city of Rust\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.02em\">The winegrower\u00b4s family Schandl is part of the community since 1741 and therefore, our winery is one of the oldest traditional businesses in town.
