Burgundy/ Pinots

We like the Pinots best, and they, in turn, like our Pannonian climate.

Depending on the vintage, we use Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir to create full-bodied, extract-rich wines that delight our wine lovers, especially after a few years of aging. We also press our best sweet wines from these varieties.

About once a decade we press a “Ritter” from Pinot Noir. The fully ripe, healthy grapes are harvested as an Auslese and achieve very high alcohol and extract values ​​if they are dry. This gallant wine is chivalrous for us, as it has excellent conditions for long aging.

Historical background to the Ruster Ausbruch

If the interaction between nature and humankind is successful, a special taste experience may develop in the barrels and we are pleased with a new vintage of “Ruster Ausbruch”.

Harvesting the Ruster Ausbruch

The composition of varieties and quantity in one Ausbruch harvest may vary widely.
The year 2015 brought us fully ripened and healthy grapes and we were happy about the equal Botrytis at the vineyards of Welschriesling, Riesling and Pinot Gris. This was one of the largest Botrytis harvests in that decade. A very good vintage was the result.

Traminer fragrances

The Traminer has a wide range of aromas and therefore goes perfectly with Indian curries, Asian dishes and Thai wok dishes. Due to its residual sugar, it is the perfect counterpoint to the spiciness of the chili.

Pinot Blanc quality sample

This wine represents most of the sand-lime brick at Lake Neusiedl. It is one of the wines of Weingut Schandl that stands out and is valued by experts.

Riesling from Lake Neusiedl

Usually, the Riesling is cultivated in cooler regions in Germany. Cultivating it in Rust is therefore rather unusual. In Rust the temperature is nearly constantly warm during the ripening process of the Riesling. However, the nights are often cloudless and cold, so that there are big differences in temperature between day and night. This is how the Riesling develops its special aroma.

Rust and the starlings

With its wide reed areas, Lake Neusiedl offers a gathering place for thousands upon thousands of starlings that are passing through on their way from Central Europe to their winter residence in Africa. From the end of August until October, the starlings build constantly growing swarms and regard the vineyards around the lake as their buffet where they can strengthen themselves before their long journey across the Mediterranean Sea.

Gelber Muskateller

The weather conditions were perfect for a good harvest of Gelber Muskateller. One heat wave was followed by another and there was only little rainfall. These are the ideal conditions that make the grape develop its aromas. From the end of August until the beginning of September we check the flavor every other day until the ripened grapes are full of sunshine and can be harvested.

The Blaufränkisch

The autochthonous Austrian variety Blaufränkisch is cultivated in Burgenland and around Lake Neusiedl.

Our family has been cultivating Blaufränkisch for hundreds of years. Therefore, it is located at the best vineyards. Only in years that are very good for red wine we produce the Blaufränkisch Ried Kreften, which is also known as the top seller at our winery.
